EXAMPLE: Buildings

Top  Previous  Next

This example will show you how to easily create a bit more variation among a group of buildings. By adding more wall textures to the house symbol parameter, the converter will select randomly between them, creating different looks for the houses.

1. Open an OCAD map with a couple of buildings. For example, a map like this:

buildings_map

2. Start the OCAD Converter and select the file. When you get to the Convert Ocad File window, select the symbol set file you want to change.

3. Do a user-controlled conversion of the OCAD file.

4. When you reach Step 2. Check Symbol Set, the symbol 526.0 Building should now be listed in the Ok Symbols section of the symbol set. Expand the parameters for the symbol (by clicking the + sign) and select the Building parameter. This should display the pane at the bottom left.

5. Put a couple of house wall textures in the editor\UserObjects folder on your computer.

6. Click the Insert button in the Walls part of the pane. Add the texture you want from the UserObjects folder. Repeat this process until all needed wall textures are added.

7. Make sure the Height relative to area option is used. This will give houses a slightly different height, which give more life to the 3D environment.

8. The pane should now look something like this:

buildings_pane

9. Repeat instruction steps 4 through 7 above for 526.1 Small building as well.

10. To see how the end result look, select Run to Finish in the Convert menu. In this example, just three different wall types creates a more varied house area:
